Frost is a high conversion ration power converter able to provide 10:1 power conversion eliminating intermediate power conversion steps and providing fewer points-of-failure and higher efficiency in a miniature footprint. The input voltage is a 28V nominal with a range of 48V-8V allowed supporting standard spacecraft bus voltages.
With Frost, radiation hardness is a focus not an afterthought. Radiation hardened by both process and design, Frost is able to withstand >150kRads TID. The high-speed feedback loop in Frost is able to respond to SEEs without deviating from its specified ripple output.
Frost is cool - not just its name, but also its operation. With best-in-class efficiency of 80% across the entire input voltage range, heat dissipation, and power waste is no longer a major concern. This allows spacecraft designers greater flexibility in component choice and placement.
Frost is currently in design with an estimated product launch of 2026 for new-space kFrost version. The deep-space EEE-INST-002 qualified version qFrost is planned for launch in 2027.
